Owner & Head Instructor
Shaun Harrison is the Owner and Head Instructor of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Camira. He began his Gracie Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2011, initially looking to develop practical self-defence skills to better protect himself and his family while improving his health, confidence, and overall wellbeing. What started as a personal goal quickly became a lifelong passion.
After spending 10+ years working as a chef, Shaun made the decision to leave the hospitality industry and turn his lifelong passion for Gracie Jiu-Jitsu into his profession. Since beginning his teaching career in 2020, he has introduced thousands of students to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, helping people of all ages and backgrounds build confidence, develop practical self-defence skills, and improve their quality of life.
In 2025, Shaun earned his Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt after more than a decade of dedicated training. Throughout his journey, he has remained committed to continuous education and has successfully completed every instructor certification and advanced course currently offered through Gracie University.
As a Gracie University Certified Instructor and Certified Training Center (CTC) owner, Shaun has completed:

In addition to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Shaun has also trained in boxing and Muay Thai. While he appreciates all aspects of martial arts, his passion has always been practical Gracie Jiu-Jitsu self-defence.
Shaun believes Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is about far more than learning techniques. While sport Jiu-Jitsu is an enjoyable part of training, his focus is on teaching students the skills they are most likely to need in real-life situations. His goal is to equip every student with the confidence, awareness, and ability to protect themselves.
Whether he's teaching a child how to stand up to bullying, helping a woman gain confidence through self-defence, preparing a student for their next belt evaluation, or working with law enforcement officers through Gracie Survival Tactics, Shaun's mission remains the same: to positively impact lives through Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
He especially enjoys working with beginners and helping them discover that Jiu-Jitsu is something anyone can learn, regardless of age, size, fitness level, or athletic ability. Seeing students overcome challenges, build confidence, and achieve things they never thought possible is what motivates him every day.
"Gracie Jiu-Jitsu isn't just about learning to fight, it's about building confidence, changing lives, and developing skills that you hope you'll never need, but could one day make all the difference. When something happens, no one can come to your aid faster than yourself."
Outside of the mats, Shaun is a devoted husband and father of two. He enjoys spending quality time with his family, getting away camping, and unwinding with the occasional gaming session. He considers Gracie Jiu-Jitsu more than a career, it's a lifelong passion and a way of giving back to the community by helping people become healthier, safer, more confident, and the best versions of themselves.
